IGNORANCE, MOTHER OF THE GREAT NATIONAL MISTAKES
Since colonial times there existed problems to mark the borders in the North of the Novo Hispanic provinces. Such was the ignorance of the extension of the republic that, when Antonio Garcia Cubas presented to Santa Anna, in 1854 the first geographic map of Mexico, the President’s surprise was huge when saw the extension of the territory he had ceded to the neighbors in the North. Santa Anna’s reaction who was president for the seventh time, was such, tells us Garcia Cubas, that he noticed that before the presentation of that map, Santa Anna had no idea of the amount of land he had ceded.
